Cross-country skiing near the Cheat River Lodge is superb.  These pictures were taken at Bear Heaven.  There are numerous trails in the Monongahela National Forest, a no fee area, suitable for all skill levels.  Our favorite place to ski is along the scenic Stuart Memorial Drive, an eleven mile unpaved Forest Service road above the Lodge.  This road, which isn't maintained in the winter, soon becomes impassable to vehicular traffic, therefore providing wonderful un-crowded cross-country skiing.     An area called Bear Heaven, on the eastern end of Stuart Memorial Drive, has its own micro-climate which provides deeper, longer lasting snow than any other place in the area.   Maps, directions, and further information are available at the Company Store.

Ski Rentals are available at White Grass Touring Center a commercial, groomed ski area located 23 miles east of the Cheat River Lodge.
